  5. Dear friends,
Thank you for your encouraging comments. I have been a bit busy this week, so could not focus on writing a post. Now that the technicalities are done, I hope I will be more productive and will write comments to you too.

  6. Hello Val,

  7. Hi Salam,

    Thanks for your kind words.

As for using ICT in the classroom, I think it's a very interesting topic to discuss.
In a nutshell, I am against using a computer in the classroom, but for special occasions. In a classroom students have something much more precious - the teacher. Contact hours, in my opinion, should be used for interaction and communication.

ICT has to be used by students when there is no teacher around, IMHO. It gives students a chance to develop autonomy, information literacy skills, improve accuracy and satisfy individual needs. Thus, my stand retarding ICT is as follows: the teacher finds and recommends, students use ICT out of class.

And what do you think about it?

  8. Hello Val,

I like your blog very much! You did an excellent work by adding nice articles and wonderful content. Regarding the use of ICT in the class I am fond of using ICT in the classroom. Once I have time and the tools needs, I try my best to use technology in my class to teach different skills. I hope will once change your opinion about ICT. Thank you for your time. Looking forward to hearing from you.

  9. Hi Salam,
I think our words would seem less contradictory, if we were more specific. I do use technology in the classroom, and I use it too. I use MSPowerPoint, download and show YouTube videos, we explore the satellite view on Google Maps, use on-line dictionaries, animated texts for young learners, digital video conferencing could be great too, but we had good speeds everywhere, etc.

What I can't agree with is the use of the computer for drilling exercises, and this is what a lot of teachers still have in mind when they speak about ICT in an EFL classroom.

Another reason for divergence of our opinions could be the availability of technology. In some cases an EFL classroom can be the only place where learners can use ICT. Then, of course, the teacher MUST give them a chance.
But, still, I don't think we should substitute for an ICT teacher. We should see the borders of our responsibility.
It would be nice to know what technology YOU use in the classroom.

  10. Hello Val,

Thank you very much for your words. I do agree with you totally that we should plan our lesson well so that we try to give time for ICT and of other teaching techniques. You I use computer whenever needed and according to my aim. If the lesson needs technology, I use it! It depends on your lesson. Have a nice day!

    Salam
